Hierotheos the Younger of Iveron

Venerable Hierotheos the Younger of Kalamata, monk of Iveron on Mount Athos.

St. Hierotheos was born at Kalamata in 1686 and, after studies in Constantinople, came to Mount Athos, where he was tonsured at the monastery of Iveron. A learned man, he later taught and preached in Venice and the Ionian islands before returning to the Holy Mountain to live in asceticism.

He reposed in 1745 on the island of Youra, and his relics were brought to Iveron. He is commemorated on September 13.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Hierotheos the Younger of Iveron is commemorated on September 13. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on September 26 of the civil calendar.
