Kornelios the Centurion

Holy Righteous Cornelius the Centurion.

St. Cornelius was a Roman centurion stationed at Caesarea, a devout man who feared God, gave alms generously, and prayed continually. As the Acts of the Apostles relates, an angel directed him to send for the Apostle Peter, and he and his household became the first Gentiles to be baptized into Christ.

Tradition holds that he afterward labored in the preaching of the Gospel and served the Church as a bishop. He is commemorated on September 13.

On the New Calendar, Kornelios the Centurion is commemorated on September 13. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on September 26 of the civil calendar.
