Hypatius of Rufinianae

Venerable Hypatius, abbot of the monastery of Rufinianae near Chalcedon.

Saint Hypatius was born in Phrygia and became a monk in Thrace before settling at the deserted monastery of Rufinianae near Chalcedon, which he restored and led for forty years. He was known for his gifts of healing and his opposition to Nestorius, and he reposed in 446.

On the New Calendar, Hypatius of Rufinianae is commemorated on June 17. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on June 30 of the civil calendar.
