Saint Philonides was bishop of Kourion in Cyprus during the persecution of Diocletian. Tradition relates that, faced with the threat of violation by the persecutors, he wrapped himself in his cloak and threw himself from a height, giving his life rather than suffer dishonour, and the Church honours him as a martyr.

August 30

Saint Philonides was bishop of Kourion in Cyprus during the persecution of Diocletian. Tradition relates that he gave up his soul to God rather than be defiled by his persecutors.

He is honoured among the saints of Cyprus.
