Holy Martyrs Manuel, Sabel and Ismael, Persian brothers and envoys beheaded by Julian the Apostate.
Saints Manuel, Sabel and Ismael were three brothers of noble Persian family who had been raised as Christians by their mother. Sent as envoys to the emperor Julian the Apostate, they refused to take part in his pagan sacrifices at Chalcedon.
Julian had them tortured and beheaded in 362, in violation of their status as ambassadors. Tradition relates that Julian's death in Persia the following year was seen as a judgement for this crime. Greeks named Manolis often keep their name day on this feast.

On the New Calendar, Manuel, Sabel and Ismael, Martyrs is commemorated on June 17. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on June 30 of the civil calendar.
