• Isauros and companions

  Martyr, Ίσαυρος

  The Holy Martyr Isauros, a deacon, suffered for Christ in the early centuries of the Church together with a company of fellow believers. Refusing to deny the Lord, they strengthened one another in prison and went together to their deaths, sealing their confession with their blood.

• Manuel, Sabel and Ismael, Martyrs

  Martyr, Μανουήλ, Σαβέλ και Ισμαήλ

  Saints Manuel, Sabel and Ismael were three brothers of noble Persian family who had been raised as Christians by their mother. Sent as envoys to the emperor Julian the Apostate, they refused to take part in his pagan sacrifices at Chalcedon.

• Philonides of Kourion

  Hierarch, Φιλωνίδης

  Saint Philonides was bishop of Kourion in Cyprus during the persecution of Diocletian. Tradition relates that, faced with the threat of violation by the persecutors, he wrapped himself in his cloak and threw himself from a height, giving his life rather than suffer dishonour, and the Church honours him as a martyr.

• Hypatius of Rufinianae

  Venerable, Υπάτιος ο εν Ρουφινιαναίς

  Saint Hypatius was born in Phrygia and became a monk in Thrace before settling at the deserted monastery of Rufinianae near Chalcedon, which he restored and led for forty years. He was known for his gifts of healing and his opposition to Nestorius, and he reposed in 446.

• Pior the Venerable

  Venerable, Πίωρ

  Abba Pior was an Egyptian ascetic of the fourth century who left his family as a young man and became a disciple of Saint Anthony the Great. He lived in Scetis, and his sayings and his remarkable detachment from his relatives are recorded in the histories of the desert fathers.

• Alban, Protomartyr of Britain

  Martyr, Αλβανός

  Saint Alban was a citizen of Verulamium in Roman Britain who sheltered a persecuted Christian priest and was converted by him. Exchanging clothes with the priest so that he might escape, Alban was arrested in his place, confessed Christ and was beheaded, in the third or early fourth century.
