John and Paul the New, Patriarchs of Constantinople

Saints John and Paul the New, Patriarchs of Constantinople, commemorated with Saint Alexander.

Saint John the Faster served as Patriarch of Constantinople in the sixth century and was renowned for his fasting and almsgiving. Saint Paul the New held the same throne in the eighth century and resigned it in penitence for having served under the iconoclasts.

They are commemorated together with Saint Alexander on this day.
