Kosmas and Damian of Rome

Holy Unmercenary Physicians Cosmas and Damian of Rome.

Sts. Kosmas and Damian of Rome were brothers and physicians of the third century who healed the sick freely in the name of Christ, accepting no payment, for which they are counted among the Holy Unmercenaries. Their charity and their faith drew many to the Church, and according to tradition they ended their lives as martyrs.

They are distinguished in the calendar from the other holy Unmercenaries of the same names honored in November and October. Physicians and the sick alike seek their intercession. They are commemorated on July 1.

On the New Calendar, Kosmas and Damian of Rome is commemorated on July 1. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on July 14 of the civil calendar.
