Peter the Patrician of Constantinople

Venerable Peter the Patrician, a court official of Constantinople who became a monk.

St. Peter the Patrician was a nobleman and military officer at the court of Constantinople in the late eighth century. Tradition relates that after being taken captive in war and delivered from prison, he renounced his rank and wealth and entered the monastic life.

He lived in humility and strict asceticism at the monastery of Evandros, hiding his former dignity, and reposed in peace.

On the New Calendar, Peter the Patrician of Constantinople is commemorated on July 1. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on July 14 of the civil calendar.
