  Kosmas and Damian of Rome

  Martyr, Κοσμάς και Δαμιανός

  Sts. Kosmas and Damian of Rome were brothers and physicians of the third century who healed the sick freely in the name of Christ, accepting no payment, for which they are counted among the Holy Unmercenaries. Their charity and their faith drew many to the Church, and according to tradition they ended their lives as martyrs.

• Peter the Patrician of Constantinople

  Venerable, Πέτρος ο Πατρίκιος

  St. Peter the Patrician was a nobleman and military officer at the court of Constantinople in the late eighth century. Tradition relates that after being taken captive in war and delivered from prison, he renounced his rank and wealth and entered the monastic life.

• Leon the Hermit

  St. Leon the Hermit is remembered in the Synaxarion as an ascetic who withdrew from the world to live in solitude, prayer and fasting. Little is recorded of his life beyond his ascetic labors.

  St. Mavrikios (Maurice) is commemorated on this day as a martyr who confessed Christ before the pagan authorities and endured torments rather than deny his faith.

• Konstantinos the Wonderworker and those with him

  Saint, Κωνσταντίνος ο Θαυματουργός

  St. Konstantinos the Wonderworker is venerated in Cyprus, where tradition relates that he came with a company of ascetics and confessed Christ. He and those with him suffered martyrdom for the faith.

• Twenty-Five Martyrs of Nicomedia

  Martyr, Εικοσιπέντε Μάρτυρες Νικομηδείας

  The Twenty-Five Martyrs of Nicomedia were Christians who refused to sacrifice to idols during the persecutions of the early Church. Tradition relates that they were burned alive for their confession of Christ.
