Holy Hieromartyr Markianos, Bishop of Syracuse, disciple of the Apostle Peter.
Markianos was sent by the Apostle Peter from Antioch to Sicily, where he became the first Bishop of Syracuse and converted many from paganism, living in a cave outside the city.
He was put to death by the Jews and pagans of the city and is honored as the first martyr of Sicily.
Feast day
On the New Calendar, Markianos of Syracuse is commemorated on October 30. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on November 12 of the civil calendar.
