Venerable Michael Maleinos, spiritual father of St. Athanasios of Athos.
St. Michael Maleinos was born to a noble family of Cappadocia in the tenth century and became a monk on Mount Kyminas in Bithynia. He was renowned for asceticism and was the spiritual father of St. Athanasios, founder of the Great Lavra on Mount Athos.
He reposed in peace, having guided many in the monastic life.

On the New Calendar, Michael Maleinos is commemorated on July 12. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on July 25 of the civil calendar.
