Nazarios, Gervase, Prothase

Holy Martyrs Nazarius, Gervase, and Prothasius.

Saints Nazarius, Gervasius, and Protasius, with their companion Celsius, were martyrs of the early Church in Italy, put to death for Christ at Milan in the first age of persecution. The synaxaria relate that Nazarius preached the Gospel with apostolic zeal, and that the young Celsius followed him even unto death.

Their relics were found centuries later in Milan in the days of St. Ambrose, to the great joy of the Church, and their veneration spread through both East and West. They are commemorated on October 14.

On the New Calendar, Nazarios, Gervase, Prothase is commemorated on October 14. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on October 27 of the civil calendar.
