Paraskevi the New of Epivates

Venerable Paraskevi the New of Epivates, whose relics rest at Iasi in Romania.

Paraskevi was born in the eleventh century at Epivates near Constantinople. Moved by the Gospel command to give to the poor, she left home and lived in asceticism in the Jordan desert for many years.

Returning to her homeland, she reposed in peace; her relics were later carried to Trnovo, Belgrade, Constantinople and finally Iasi, where she is honored as the protectress of Moldavia and beloved throughout the Balkans.

On the New Calendar, Paraskevi the New of Epivates is commemorated on October 14. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on October 27 of the civil calendar.
