  Nazarios, Gervase, Prothase

  Martyr, Ναζάριος

  Saints Nazarius, Gervasius, and Protasius, with their companion Celsius, were martyrs of the early Church in Italy, put to death for Christ at Milan in the first age of persecution. The synaxaria relate that Nazarius preached the Gospel with apostolic zeal, and that the young Celsius followed him even unto death.

• Kosmas the Melodist

  Hierarch, Κοσμάς ο Μελωδός

  Kosmas was an orphan adopted by the father of Saint John of Damascus and educated with him by a learned monk from Calabria. Both entered the Lavra of Saint Sabbas, where Kosmas composed canons for the great feasts, including those of the Nativity, Theophany and Holy Week.

• Paraskevi the New of Epivates

  Holy Woman, Παρασκευή η Επιβατηνή

  Paraskevi was born in the eleventh century at Epivates near Constantinople. Moved by the Gospel command to give to the poor, she left home and lived in asceticism in the Jordan desert for many years.

• Silvanos of Gaza

  Hierarch, Σιλβανός ο Ιερομάρτυς

  Silvanos was a soldier who left the army to become a priest at Gaza and was later made a bishop. In the persecution of Diocletian and Maximian he was condemned to labor in the copper mines of Phaeno.

• Ignatios Agallianos

  Hierarch, Ιγνάτιος ο Αγαλλιανός

  Ignatios was born on Lesbos around 1492, married and served as a priest, and after his wife's death became a monk. He was made Metropolitan of Methymna and founded the monastery of the Leimon and the convent of Myrsiniotissa.

  Venerable, Νικόλαος ο εν τω Σπηλαίω

  Nicholas, great-grandson of Yaroslav the Wise and Prince of Lutsk, left his wife, children and principality in 1106 to become a monk of the Kiev Caves, the first Russian prince to do so.
