Paul the Monk-Martyr

Holy Monk-Martyr Paul, burned for the holy icons.

St. Paul was a monk who suffered during the iconoclast persecution of the eighth century. Tradition relates that he refused to trample on an icon of Christ when commanded, and that he was burned to death for his confession.

The Church keeps his memory on March 17.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Paul the Monk-Martyr is commemorated on March 17. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on March 30 of the civil calendar.
