Theosteriktos the Confessor

Venerable Theosteriktos the Confessor, abbot of the Pelekete monastery.

St. Theosteriktos was abbot of the monastery of Pelekete in Bithynia in the eighth century, during the iconoclast persecution of Constantine Copronymos. Tradition relates that when soldiers attacked the monastery on Holy Thursday, many of the monks were killed and he himself was tortured and had his nose cut off for his defense of the holy icons.

He survived to govern his monastery for many years and reposed in peace. The Church honors him as a confessor on March 17.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Theosteriktos the Confessor is commemorated on March 17. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on March 30 of the civil calendar.
