Hieromartyr Peter of Krutitsa, locum tenens of the Patriarchal throne of Moscow, martyred in 1937.
St. Peter, Metropolitan of Krutitsa, was named locum tenens of the Patriarchal throne of Moscow after the death of St. Tikhon in 1925. Arrested by the Soviet authorities within the year, he spent the rest of his life in prisons and exile, refusing every offer of freedom in exchange for surrendering the Church's independence.
He was shot in 1937 and was glorified among the New Martyrs of Russia. He is commemorated on September 27.
