Venerable Theophilos the Confessor, monk of Bulgaria who suffered for the holy icons.
Theophilos entered monastic life as a youth under the elder Stephen on Mount Selenteia and grew in obedience and prayer. During the iconoclast persecution of Leo the Isaurian he boldly defended the veneration of the holy icons.
For this he was flogged and sent into exile, where he died in peace after long sufferings, and so is honored as a confessor.
