Therapon of Sardis

Hieromartyr Therapon, Bishop of Sardis, beheaded under Valerian.

Therapon was bishop of Sardis in Lydia and brought many pagans to Christ. During the persecution of Valerian he was arrested, dragged in chains through the cities of Asia and, tradition relates, bound to a dry stake which afterward put forth leaves.

He was beheaded around 259. His name-day is widely kept on this date.
