Therapon of White Lake

Venerable Therapon of Belozersk, founder of the Ferapontov Monastery.

Therapon was a companion of Saint Kirill of White Lake and, in the late fourteenth century, founded a monastery near Lake Beloe that came to bear his name and was later adorned with the frescoes of Dionisy.

He went on to found another monastery near Mozhaisk and reposed in 1426.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Therapon of White Lake is commemorated on May 27. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on June 9 of the civil calendar.
