Vlasios of Akarnania and those with him

Hieromartyr Vlasios of Sklavaina in Akarnania and his companions, slain by pirates.

St. Vlasios was a priest and monk of Sklavaina in Akarnania, western Greece, who lived in the eleventh century. Tradition relates that he and his companions were killed by Saracen pirates who raided their monastery.

His memory was revealed in modern times through visions, and his relics are honored in Akarnania.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Vlasios of Akarnania and those with him is commemorated on July 7. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on July 20 of the civil calendar.
