The Holy 120 Martyrs who were burned for Christ in Persia.
These one hundred and twenty Christians were captured in the wars between the Byzantine and Persian empires in the fourth century and held in Persia. When they refused to worship fire and the sun they were condemned.
Tradition relates that they were burned alive together after firmly confessing their faith.
Feast day
On the New Calendar, 120 Martyrs of Persia is commemorated on April 6. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on April 19 of the civil calendar.
