Venerable Gregory the Byzantine, Athonite hesychast and spiritual teacher of Saint Gregory Palamas.
Gregory came from Constantinople to Mount Athos in the fourteenth century and lived in stillness in the desert places of the Holy Mountain. He is remembered chiefly as the elder who guided the young Gregory Palamas in the life of prayer.
He reposed in peace on Athos.

On the New Calendar, Gregory the Byzantine is commemorated on April 6. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on April 19 of the civil calendar.
