Patriarch of Constantinople.
St. Eutychios was Patriarch of Constantinople in the sixth century, in the days of the emperor Justinian. A monk raised to the patriarchal throne, he presided at the Fifth Ecumenical Council, and later, refusing to accept a teaching that compromised the reality of Christ's human nature, he was deposed and spent years in exile in a monastery.
Restored at last to his throne, he ended his days in peace, honored as a confessor for the truth of the Incarnation. He is commemorated on April 6.
