Holy Apostle Alphaeus, father of the Apostles James and Matthew.
Alphaeus is named in the Gospels as the father of the Apostle James the Less and, according to tradition, of the Evangelist Matthew. Tradition relates that he preached the Gospel and reposed in peace.
He is commemorated with the Apostle Karpos on May 26.
