New Martyr Anastasios the painter of Nafplio, who suffered under the Ottomans.
St. Anastasios was a painter from Nafplio in the Peloponnese. Tradition relates that after a broken betrothal he was driven out of his senses and in that state was drawn into professing Islam; when he came to himself he publicly renounced it and confessed Christ before the Turkish authorities.
He was cut down by the crowd and received the crown of martyrdom in Nafplio at the beginning of the eighteenth century.

On the New Calendar, Anastasios of Nafplio is commemorated on February 1. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on February 14 of the civil calendar.
