Tryphon

Holy Martyr Tryphon of Campsada.

St. Tryphon was born in the village of Campsada in Phrygia, in Asia Minor, where as a youth he tended geese. Endowed by God with grace to heal the sick and drive out evil spirits, he became known far beyond his village. During the persecution of Decius in the third century he confessed Christ, endured torture, and was condemned to death, receiving the martyr's crown while still young.

The faithful invoke him as a protector of gardens, fields, and vineyards, and his blessing is asked over crops against every pest. He is commemorated on February 1.

On the New Calendar, Tryphon is commemorated on February 1. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on February 14 of the civil calendar.
