Peter of Galatia

Venerable Peter the Hermit of Galatia, ascetic near Antioch.

St. Peter of Galatia left his home while still a boy and lived as a hermit, first in Galatia and later near Antioch in Syria, where Theodoret of Cyrrhus knew him and recorded his life. He spent his days in fasting, prayer and silence in a small tomb-like cell.

Tradition relates that he received the gift of healing and delivered many from illness and demonic affliction, reposing in peace at a great age.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Peter of Galatia is commemorated on February 1. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on February 14 of the civil calendar.
