Vendemianos of Bithynia

Venerable Vendemianos, hermit of Mount Oxia in Bithynia and disciple of St. Auxentios.

St. Vendemianos came from Mysia and became a disciple of St. Auxentios on the mountain near Chalcedon. After the death of his elder he continued to live in a cleft of the rock on Mount Oxia, struggling in fasting and prayer for many decades.

He was granted the gift of working miracles and reposed in peace in the early sixth century.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Vendemianos of Bithynia is commemorated on February 1. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on February 14 of the civil calendar.
