Saint Basil of Ostrog, Bishop of Zahumlje, wonderworker of Montenegro.
Basil was born in Herzegovina in the seventeenth century and became a monk and later Bishop of Zahumlje. Persecuted by the Turks and by Latin missionaries, he withdrew to the rock monastery of Ostrog in Montenegro, where he lived in great asceticism.
He reposed in 1671 and his relics remain incorrupt at Ostrog, where countless healings are attributed to his prayers.
Feast day
On the New Calendar, Basil of Ostrog is commemorated on April 29. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on May 12 of the civil calendar.
