Seven Martyrs of Corfu

The Holy Seven Martyrs of Corfu, robbers who believed in prison and were martyred in boiling pitch.

Saturninus, Iakischolus, Faustianus, Januarius, Marsalius, Euphrasius and Mammius were seven robbers imprisoned on Corfu together with the Apostles Jason and Sosipater. Through the apostles' teaching they came to faith in Christ.

They were put to death in a cauldron of boiling pitch in the first century and are honoured as the first martyrs of the island.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Seven Martyrs of Corfu is commemorated on April 29. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on May 12 of the civil calendar.
