John Kaloktenis of Thebes

Saint John Kaloktenis, Metropolitan of Thebes, the New Merciful One.

John Kaloktenis was Metropolitan of Thebes in Boeotia in the twelfth century, remembered for his charity to the poor and for public works in his city, including water channels and hospitals.

He reposed in peace and is honoured by the Church of Thebes as its patron.

On the New Calendar, John Kaloktenis of Thebes is commemorated on April 29. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on May 12 of the civil calendar.
