Nine Martyrs of Cyzicus

The Holy Nine Martyrs of Cyzicus.

The holy Nine Martyrs suffered at Cyzicus, a city on the southern shore of the Sea of Marmara, during the persecutions of the third century. Christians of different ages and walks of life, they confessed Christ openly before the authorities, and when neither threats nor torments could move them, all nine were beheaded together.

When peace came to the Church their relics were found incorrupt, and a church was raised over them; many healings were received there by the faithful. They are commemorated on April 29.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Nine Martyrs of Cyzicus is commemorated on April 29. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on May 12 of the civil calendar.
