Holy Virgin Martyr Kerkyra, daughter of the king of Corfu, converted by the Apostles Jason and Sosipater.
Kerkyra was the daughter of the ruler of the island of Corfu at the time the Apostles Jason and Sosipater preached there. Seeing the endurance of the martyrs, she believed in Christ and gave her jewels to the poor.
Her father had her shut up and finally put to death, tradition relating that she was shot with arrows, in the first century. The island's cathedral keeps her memory.
Feast day
On the New Calendar, Kerkyra the Martyr is commemorated on April 29. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on May 12 of the civil calendar.
