Dionysios of Olympus

Venerable Dionysios of Olympus, founder of the monastery on Mount Olympus.

St. Dionysios was born in Thessaly and became a monk on Mount Athos, where he was abbot of Philotheou. He later withdrew to Mount Olympus in Macedonia and founded there the monastery of the Holy Trinity that bears his name.

He reposed in 1541 and is greatly venerated in Macedonia and Thessaly. He is commemorated on January 23.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Dionysios of Olympus is commemorated on January 23. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on February 5 of the civil calendar.
