Mausimas the Syrian

Venerable Mausimas the Syrian, a priest and ascetic.

St. Mausimas was a priest in a village near Cyrrhus in Syria in the fourth century, who lived in extreme poverty and gave everything to the poor. Tradition relates that his jar of oil and bin of grain never ran out, however much he gave away.

He reposed in peace and is commemorated on January 23.

On the New Calendar, Mausimas the Syrian is commemorated on January 23. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on February 5 of the civil calendar.
