Salamanes the Silent

Venerable Salamanes the Hesychast of the Euphrates.

St. Salamanes lived in a small cell on the bank of the Euphrates in the fourth century, keeping complete silence and receiving no visitors. Tradition relates that the people of his native village carried him off to have him among them, and that he remained silent and untroubled throughout.

He reposed in peace and is commemorated on January 23.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Salamanes the Silent is commemorated on January 23. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on February 5 of the civil calendar.
