Dositheos of Gaza

Venerable Dositheos, disciple of Saint Dorotheos of Gaza.

Saint Dositheos was a young man of noble family who entered the monastery near Gaza under the care of Saint Dorotheos. Though weak in body and unable to keep the ascetic rule, he attained holiness in a few years through perfect obedience and the cutting off of his own will.

His brief life is told in the writings of his teacher.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Dositheos of Gaza is commemorated on August 13. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on August 26 of the civil calendar.
