Eulogius the Hospitable

Righteous Eulogius the Hospitable, a stonecutter who shared all he earned with strangers.

Eulogius was a stonecutter of Egypt who spent each day's wages in feeding and lodging the poor and travellers. Tradition relates that a holy elder prayed for him to receive wealth so that he might do more good, but riches led him astray until, at the elder's further prayer, he lost them and returned to his former humble life.

He reposed in peace and is honoured as a model of hospitality.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Eulogius the Hospitable is commemorated on April 27. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on May 10 of the civil calendar.
