  Simeon, Bishop of Jerusalem

  Martyr, Συμεών

  St. Simeon was a kinsman of the Lord according to the flesh, the son of Clopas, and became the second Bishop of Jerusalem after the death of James the Brother of God. He shepherded the mother Church of Jerusalem through decades of trial, including the destruction of the city, guarding the flock of Christ in the very places of His Passion and Resurrection.

  John was abbot of the Monastery of Kathares in Bithynia in the ninth century. When the iconoclast emperors renewed their persecution he refused to renounce the holy icons and was imprisoned, scourged and exiled.

  Poplion is commemorated in the Greek synaxaria as a martyr who gave his life for Christ. Nothing further of his life has been preserved.

• Eulogius the Hospitable

  Saint, Ευλόγιος ο Ξενοδόχος

  Eulogius was a stonecutter of Egypt who spent each day's wages in feeding and lodging the poor and travellers. Tradition relates that a holy elder prayed for him to receive wealth so that he might do more good, but riches led him astray until, at the elder's further prayer, he lost them and returned to his former humble life.

  Lollion is commemorated in the Greek synaxaria as a martyr who was put to death for Christ. The details of his life have not been preserved.

• Stephen of Vladimir

  Hierarch, Στέφανος Επίσκοπος Βλαντιμίρ

  Stephen was a disciple of Saint Theodosius of the Kiev Caves and succeeded him as abbot of the monastery in the eleventh century, completing the great church he had begun. Later he founded a monastery of his own near Kiev.
