Simeon, Bishop of Jerusalem

Hieromartyr Simeon, Kinsman of the Lord, Bishop of Jerusalem.

St. Simeon was a kinsman of the Lord according to the flesh, the son of Clopas, and became the second Bishop of Jerusalem after the death of James the Brother of God. He shepherded the mother Church of Jerusalem through decades of trial, including the destruction of the city, guarding the flock of Christ in the very places of His Passion and Resurrection.

In extreme old age he was denounced to the Romans, and after enduring tortures was crucified in the days of the emperor Trajan, following his Lord in the manner of his death. He is commemorated on April 27.
