Forty-Five Holy Martyrs of Nicopolis

The Forty-Five Holy Martyrs of Nicopolis in Armenia, martyred under Licinius (c. 319).

The Forty-Five Holy Martyrs of Nicopolis in Armenia confessed Christ during the persecution of the Emperor Licinius, around the year 319. Presenting themselves openly as Christians, they were imprisoned and endured harsh sufferings, encouraging one another in prayer and psalmody, and were finally put to death by fire.

Their shared confession, offered freely and together, has made them an image of the strength of the faithful united in Christ. They are commemorated on July 10.

On the New Calendar, Forty-Five Holy Martyrs of Nicopolis is commemorated on July 10. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on July 23 of the civil calendar.
