George of Maleon

Venerable George, ascetic of Mount Maleon in the Peloponnese.

George refused a marriage arranged by his parents and withdrew to Mount Maleon in the Peloponnese, where he lived as a monk in the ninth century. He was granted the gift of foresight and, tradition relates, foretold the day of his own repose.

He is one of the holy ascetics of Laconia venerated by the local faithful.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, George of Maleon is commemorated on April 4. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on April 17 of the civil calendar.
