Pherbutha of Persia

Holy Martyr Pherbutha of Persia, with her sister and her servant.

Pherbutha was the sister of the hieromartyr Simeon, bishop of Persia. After his death she, her widowed sister, and her servant were accused of sorcery by the Zoroastrian priests and brought before the Persian king.

Refusing to deny Christ, they were put to death in the fourth century, tradition relating that they were sawn asunder. They are remembered among the martyrs of the great persecution under Shapur.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Pherbutha of Persia is commemorated on April 4. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on April 17 of the civil calendar.
