Publius of Egypt

Venerable Publius, ascetic of the Egyptian desert in the days of Julian the Apostate.

Publius lived as a hermit in the Egyptian desert in the fourth century. Tradition relates that by his prayers he hindered a demon sent by the emperor Julian the Apostate, who had set out to make war on the Persians.

He reposed in peace in the desert.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Publius of Egypt is commemorated on April 4. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on April 17 of the civil calendar.
