Saint Germanos, Patriarch of Constantinople, confessor for the holy icons.
Germanos was born in Constantinople in the seventh century, son of a patrician executed by the emperor. Raised among the clergy of the Great Church, he became Bishop of Cyzicus and in 715 Patriarch of Constantinople.
When Leo the Isaurian began his attack on the holy icons, Germanos refused to sign the decree and resigned his throne in 730. He lived out his days in retirement and reposed around 740; his hymns are still sung in the Church.
