James the Presbyter and Azas the Deacon

Holy Martyrs James the Presbyter and Azas the Deacon of Persia.

James, a priest, and Azas, a deacon, were arrested in Persia during the persecution of King Shapur in the fourth century. They endured severe torture for refusing to worship the sun.

They were put to death for Christ and are honoured with the other martyrs of Persia.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, James the Presbyter and Azas the Deacon is commemorated on April 10. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on April 23 of the civil calendar.
