Karion the Venerable

Venerable Karion of Egypt, father of Venerable Zacharias.

Venerable Karion was a monk of Scetis in Egypt and the father of Venerable Zacharias, who followed him into the desert as a boy. The Evergetinos preserves his saying that a man who keeps a child with him in the desert cannot advance to the higher measures of virtue.

He reposed in peace.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Karion the Venerable is commemorated on November 24. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on December 7 of the civil calendar.
