Malchus the Venerable

Venerable Malchus, monk of Syria.

Venerable Malchus is honoured in the synaxarion as a monk who reposed in peace. Tradition identifies him with the Syrian monk whose story of captivity among the desert nomads and faithful return to his monastery was recorded by Saint Jerome.

No other details are preserved.

Feast day

On the New Calendar, Malchus the Venerable is commemorated on November 24. Churches on the Old (Julian) Calendar keep the feast on December 7 of the civil calendar.
